Mixbook Categories

As of today, there’s an even better way to search and browse through Mixbook photo books!

We have just updated the site with categories, so you can label your pretty books and place them in one of the following subject headings:

When you begin a book, you may categorize a book at any time during the creation process. Category selection is done on the the book information page, right below “tags.”

If you already published your book before we integrated this feature, you can go back and categorize your book by clicking on the pull-down menu. This will help when you are looking for books of a certain type or event, and the list of categories can be found on the left side of the “Explore” page.

So make sure to go back and categorize your book! Thanks Mixbookers!

New Mixbook Widget

Now you can share your Mixbook with the world! Today is the big debut of our Mixbook widget – which will now enable you to embed your books in a blog, myspace, facebook, or any other webpage. This is an exciting day for us, since NO OTHER photo book site has this ability.

This will allow your blog readers and friends to preview your photo book creation on your own site, and then visit the Mixbook site to comment on it, rate it, or even order a printed version for themselves.

Unfortunately for us, WordPress does not allow embedding, but if you visit our myspace page, you can see our widget in action. Please go to

Let us know if you like this new feature – we’d love to hear from you! And be on the lookout for even better features from us, we’ve got a lot in store for the future.

Though I must say, this widget is too cool for school …

Update on Ordering

Hi Mixbookers!

I know many of you are eager to order your Mixbooks, and I want to let you know the process that we’ve been going through and when you will be able to order. At Mixbook, we strive to give you the highest quality possible in our printed books. Unfortunately, several of our first customers received books with weak binding – thus, the books did not stand up to normal wear and tear as well as they should. Because of this, we took ordering down while we spent the past two weeks improving the binding of the books and testing our solution. I’m happy to say that we are nearly done with this process, and the binding is far improved and nearly matches the sturdy binding quality you would find in any bookstore.

On that note, we are going to be be turning ordering back on this weekend, so you will be able to order your Mixbooks very soon!

As for the $9.99 promotion that has been mentioned in so many blogs and articles – we will be extending the promotion to the middle of August to make up for the downtime in the ordering system. Look for more updates on this blog and the Mixbook home page on Monday.

Thanks all for your patience and understanding. We have a great product coming for you!

Mixbook has Launched!

It’s 3:48 AM, and Rebekah, Alison, Josh, Aryk and I have just launched Mixbook. Now you and your friends can create amazing books, print them, and share them with the world! In our late night stupor, let me share a couple quotes from some of our favorite Mixbookers:

“I just finished my first little book! Can I just say that I will NEVER again scrapbook. This is the easiest, most efficient thing ever!!! We’re leaving today for a month in Europe, I can’t wait to get home and start my next book!”

Linda G. – after publishing Graham Family Beach Trip 2007

“Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh! I’m addicted to Mixbook!”

Arpit Mehta – after publishing Disneyland

“can i please just tell you how much i LOVE mixbook?!? i find myself looking at people’s mixbooks for hours and i don’t even know them!!”

Libby S. – she published Our Friendship

And that’s just a small sampling of the great feedback we’ve been getting from people who have used Mixbook. So what are you waiting for? Get on the site and try it out now!

Sneak Preview of the Mixbook Creator

So many of my friends and family members are asking me: “When is Mixbook going to launch?” “When can I use it?” We’re just about there, and many of you will be receiving invites over the next couple of days. In the meantime, I thought I’d give you a little preview of the Mixbook Creator – the primary tool used to create Mixbooks on the site (hence the name).

The Mixbook Creator allows you to quickly and easily create beautiful books (“Mixbooks”) that can be printed as professional photo books or shared online with your family and friends. However, Mixbook is different than all those other photobook creation sites out there. Some of the main things you will notice:

  • We save everything for you. There is no save button, because you don’t need to save. We’ve got it covered with our amazing auto-save feature.
  • Try before you click. Wondering what something will look like after you apply it? Are you afraid to try out that cool new layout? Just hover your mouse over and watch as your page automatically previews what it would look like if you clicked to select that layout. No need to commit yet – just try putting your mouse over it, and we just might give you a preview so you don’t lose your work!
  • Awesome Colors – Having trouble selecting a color? Open the color palette and try moving your mouse over a picture on your page. See that? We pulled the color right out of your picture! It’s magic. 🙂

Now that we have you excited, check out these beautiful screenshots of the Mixbook Creator in action:
